Oklahoma man shot, killed by police after fight over rescue

Oklahoma authorities say a state trooper has fatally shot a man who was involved in a fight with officers who came to evacuate him and another man from floodwaters.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Paul Timmons said the shooting occurred late Friday in Okmulgee County.

Timmons said two troopers were dispatched to help men who were trying to remove a vehicle stalled in rising water. They were upset that troopers wanted them to get out of the water, and one attacked a trooper.

One man died at the scene. Timmons did not know whether one or both troopers fired shots or how many were fired. He said it’s unclear whether the men were armed.

The other man was not shot, but arrested and taken to jail.

Authorities haven’t released anyone’s names.
