Children’s Hospital stands by decision to hire AlixPartners

is concerned about the way the el paso children’s hospital is spending its money. specifically the money going to a consulting firm and the hospital’s ceo. alix partners and c-e-o mark herbers were hired in late february at a rate of 220-thousand dollars a month, according to commissioner david stout. stout says money being paid to alix partners could be used to repay u- m-c. but children’s is standing by its decision — saying herbers and alixpartners are quote “essential to a successful exit from bankruptcy.” it says both have vastly improved the children’s hospital’s finances. for example — it says in february, the children’s hospital had 8 days of cash on hand. by may, under herbers’ leadership, the hospital had 43 days worth of cash. children’s says that indicates “critical financial improvements” were made in just months. today marks the 70th anniversary of the trinity test. it
