El Paso Playhouse opens 52nd season
central el paso has been entertaing generations of local patrons. tonight marks the opening of its 52nd season with the play, ‘steel magnolias’. welcome back to abc-seven at six, i’m estela cas. and i’m rick cabrera. the show’s cast proves community theatre is alive and well in el paso. photojournalist esmeralda ojeda shows us how: “nats” “this is the 52nd seas of the playhouse being open to the community. and it is the, just like it says in the name, it is a community theatre and this is where i learned a lot of my craft hands on.” “you can only do so much theory you can only do so much bookwork.” “nats” don’t think that we celebrate theatre the way that we do live music and the movies and stuff.” “in cities lik this, people are all like, “wel you don’t get paid, why do you keep doing this?” “you have to love i you have to love it and it has to be something you consider an art form to you.” “if you don’t think of i that way, and you don’t love it, then you would just be wasting your time.” “i’v quit jobs to do theatre. laughs …it’s true.” ” need to share experiences with each other so we can grow, and i repeat, that is what theatre is about, what life is about.” “what wonderful place and experience to be part of where everybody of all walks of life can share that.” “come see us, come join us, any show, all of the shows, twice at least!” and you can catch “stee magnolias” at the el paso playhouse beginning tonight at 8. the show runs until august 8th. we have to check it out. we’re just two weeks away from our annual humane society telethon! join us
