Affidavit reveals details of DJ’s arrest at Texas Showdown Festival
Friday began with rumors on social media that Eminem might join his Shady Records artist Yelawolf at the Texas Showdown Festival.
The night ended with DJ Klever, the DJ for Yelawolf, being arrested for resisting arrest and possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility.
Yelawolf and DJ Klever had finished their Eminem-less performance at the Texas Showdown Festival Friday night when DJ Klever was arrested near the stage.
According to the affidavit, an El Paso County Sheriff’s detective was working at the El Paso County Coliseum at about 9:45 p.m. on Friday when a witness told him about a “highly intoxicated subject who was behind the stage.”
The detective made contact with the subject, DJ Klever (real name Josh Nathan Winkler), and the deputy said he appeared to be “highly intoxicated and could not keep his balance.”
The detective saw the defendant fall on his back and hit the back of his head on the ground, according to the affidavit.
The witness attempted to assist Winkler from the ground but Winkler allegedly swung at the witness.
Winkler then allegedly grabbed the witness’ shirt and tried to pull the witness toward him, according to the affidavit.
The detective, along with a second detective, approached Winkler, picked him up and attempted to secure him.
Winkler allegedly yelled, “Get the f— off of me,” according to the affidavit.
The two detectives each grabbed Winkler’s arms and tried to escort him from the stage area.
Winkler allegedly tried to pull away from the detectives several times.
One of the detectives gave Winkler loud verbal commands to stop resisting, but he refused and continued to swing his arms away from them, according to the affidavit.
The detectives tried to place Winkler’s hands behind his back, but he allegedly continued to resist. One of the detectives yelled at him to stop resisting and he allegedly refused to comply.
According to the affidavit, the detectives placed Winkler on the ground, handcuffed him and escorted him to the security office.
“The defendant had red blood shot eyes and had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath and person,” according to the affidavit.
Yelawolf posted pictures of Winkler and captions on his verified Instagram account that explained their side of the story.
“This is what happened .. I watched the whole thing … Klever fell down drunk on his back .. reached his hand out to get helped up to the f—ing promoter .. The promoter slapped his hand away .. Like really slapped his hand away .. Refusing to help him up .. Klever raised up like what the f— man ?!! Reaching his hand out again .. And just like that .. The cops jumped on him .. They slammed him shirtless to the concrete .. Smashed his face all up .. There was blood everywhere .. Klever ?!!! .. I can’t even begin to tell yall how non aggressive Doodle is .. If you knew him you’d know how laid back and cool he is .. And EVERY SINGLE promoter / security / festival owner refused to talk to me … And they wouldn’t let me any where near him after they beat him up .. Klever was sent to the hospital .. Then booked at 8 am.,” Yelawolf wrote on an Instagram post.
On another Instagram post showing Winkler’s face after the incident, Yelawolf wrote, “Broken nose .. Stitches on his eye .. Concussion .. El Paso PD laid the DIRTY law down on my brother Klever .. This is far from over though.”
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was the arresting agency, not the El Paso Police Department.
