McFarland Out for Season

involving the miners football team… and it’s not good news… tight end mj mcfarland, who was supposed to play big role in the miners offense, is out for the entire season after failing a drug test… mcfarland transferred to utep in the offseason after playing with the longhorns… mcfarland was the forgotten man at u-t but he was expected to be one of the focal points of the utep offense because he’s a big bodied receiver who can block… he’s a hometown kid from el dorado high school… but we’ll never see him play a down with utep… “we have specific rules on ou team and he broke those rules. i feel sorry for the young man, he’s an excellent young man. he made a poor decision and he’ll have to live with that this year. we’ll move on.” m-jgraduated from u-t… he had one year of elibgility left and is not eligible to return next year… mcfarland just released a statement on twitter: he says: just to clarify, i failed a ncaa drug test due to a banned substance that i was not aware of… i took a supplement that was supposed to help aid the process of coming back from a concussion i received during spring ball… it was not used to enhance performance due to the fact i was on bed rest for two weeks, trying to heal and get back to the norm… that is it. however, rules are rules and i am currently suffering the consequences… therefore, i would like to thank you utep and staff for giving me the opportunity to play the game i love but unfortunately… this is just another obstacle that god will guide me through. very respectfully, mj mcfarland
