house. so, folks who live in apartments should consider the following tips before they adopt. make sure pets are allowed. lease agreements will dictate whether or not pets are allowed, and if there are weight or breed restrictions. always read the lease carefully and consult with the leasing agent if you have questions. pet-proof the apartment. most apartments require a pet deposit, to ensure you get that back when you leave make sure that you pet proof the space prior to brining your pet home. make sure electric wires are not out in the open. buy a crate to house the critter when you are away and if you are adopting a cat be sure to purchase a scratching post. put breakables out of reach. choose the right pet. not all pets are compatible with apartment living. very large dogs and very hyper dogs are not well suited for small spaces. if you live on upper levels consider how well the dog, especially an older dog may be able to get up and down the stairs. cats are excellent apartment dwellers. train the pet early. i highly recommend that new dog parents enroll in a basic obedience class immediately after adoption. this will help to bond the relationship and help the dog adjust to its new home. options. if you are at work for long hours consider hiring a pet walker to get the doggie out during the day. if you already own a dog and are moving into a new complex, it can be a good idea to take your dog along for the tour so that management can see that the dog won’t cause problems. and we’ll be right back!
