Convicted Arizona kidnapper found in Ciudad Juarez

A convicted kidnapper from Phoenix was found in Mexico and deported to the U.S., according to the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

Isaias Chavarria, of Phoenix, Arizona was detained by Mexican Immigration authorities Monday afternoon in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico and it was determined that Chavarria did not have status to remain in Mexico and was subsequently deported to the United States via the Stanton Street Bridge International Port of Entry.

In September of 2010 Chavarria was tried and convicted by a Maricopa County Superior Court Jury of Kidnapping, Theft by Extortion and Aggravated Assault in a Feb. 2008 incident.

Chavarria, who was out on bond during his trial, failed to show for the jury’s verdict and on Sept. 14, 2010 warrants were issued for Chavarria’s arrest.

Robert Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, states that “The arrest of Mr. Chavarria is another example of team work and excellent communication across many jurisdictions. Mr. Chavarria thought he could take refuge in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and avoid facing the consequences of his actions in the U.S. I hope his arrest helps the victim breathe a little easier knowing that he is in custody and allows her to continue with the healing process.”
