Former NMSU stars Bhullar, Mullings to play for Team Canada

Former New Mexico State University (NMSU) basketball stars Sim Bhullar and Daniel Mullings have been selected to play for Team Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games.

The Aggies made the 12-man roster that will play this week at the Ryerson Athletic Centre in Toronto. Both Bhullar and Mullings are from Toronto.

Bhullar, a 7-5 center, made his NBA debut in April for the Sacramento Kings after playing for the Reno Bighorns in the NBA D-League.

Bhullar was named the MVP of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in 2013 and 2014. He averaged 10.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.4 blocked shots per game in his final season as an Aggie in 13-14. Bhullar holds the NMSU career record in blocked shots with 186 in two seasons.

Mullings, a 6-2 guard, was the 2014 Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and an honorable mention AP All-American as a junior. After missing 12 games in 2014-15, Mullings returned to lead the Aggies to 13 straight wins, the WAC Championship and their fourth straight WAC Tournament Championship and NCAA appearance.

Mullings averaged 12.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game as a senior in 2014-15. He finished his career as the Aggies number four all-time leading scorer with 1,677 points and the career record holder for most steals 249.

Team Canada is scheduled to play its first game of the Pan Am Games Tuesday against the Dominican Republic at 4 p.m. Mountain time.

Team Canada plays Argentina on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Mountain in pool play and Mexico on Thursday also at 4 p.m. Mountain.

All three games are contest prior to Team USA’s contests in the Pan Am games.

Semifinal action is on Friday with the medal games on Saturday in Toronto.
