a swat situation overnight leads to a police chase into the early morning hours. we have the latest from our round the clock news team this morning. “get out of the car–i will light you up” plus–controversy surrounding the arrest of a texas woman who killed herself in jail–the officer attempts to drag her out of her car all while threatening her with a stun gun and residents in horizon are on edge after a woman was attacked during her evening jog and the suspect is still is on the loose. a very good morning el paso, las cruces, and juarez. i’m stephanie valle. and i’m hillary floren. good morning, everyone. a live look at stormtrack doppler radar is showing… happy wednesday! today we’re starting with temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s. the winds are lighter now. we had lots of rain move through last night! most of us didn’t see anything too heavy, but the chance of showers continues like this. late day, and into the evening chances develop. a man is in the hospital after a swat situation overnight in northeast el paso that lasted for hours. it all started on the 11-thousand-9- hundred block of mesquite bush lane. abc-7’s denise olivas has our round the clock coverage… we are standing right in front of the home where the swat situation all took place. police spokesman sergeant robert gomez confirms the suspect is 53 year old daniel sandoval. he is now at a local hospital and will be arrested once he’s released. take a look at the damage– this happened when police say sandoval crashed through his garage door and escaped. the swat situation started at about 7:40 last night. police officers responded in reference to an agg. assault in progress. neighbors tell police sandoval threatened them with what appeared to be a kitchen knife. he then barricaded himself in his residence. the swat team was called out. after hours of negotiating at about 1:30 am the swat situation took an unexpected turn. sandoval escaped and took out his garage door: “due to the damage… take hi into custody.” sandoval faces two aggravated assault charges. a traffic stop quickly spins out of control.. and the question – could this have ended differently? the newly released dashcam video in a moment– her family and friends mourning her death this morning. jessica willey has the story. nats inside a crowded chapel ?a memorial service for sandra bland. with her mother and sister front row, friends gathered to pay their respects sot we just came to support her memory nats of stop the service came on the heels of the release of the controversial dash cam video. state leaders promised transparency. sot we want the facts to come out in the investigation while also noting the concerns of a multi-faceted investigation. sot you have two episodes here. you have the traffic stop and then you have the loss of life we want to be very careful to go through both bland-a 28 year old black woman was arrested july 10th and spent almost 3 days in this waller county jail cell. july 13th an officer found her lifeless, having used a plastic trash can liner like this one -according to the sheriff’s office—to suffocate herself. friends and relatives question suicide. state senator royce west of dallas questioned her arrest in the first place. sot she did not deserve to be placed in custody as have others who have now seen this video. sot i think it was perfectly clear he escalated. he should have descalated as an officer of the law opinions as authorities say they’re looking for facts. sot in texas we’re going to take very careful steps so there’s no rush to judgement. that was jessica willey reporting. waller county judge, trey duhon, and district attorney elton mathis met privately with sandra bland’s family members yesterday. duhon says the meeting was important for telling the family that county officials are committed to an “open and transparent investigative process.” mathi assured bland’s mother and sister that even though evidence indicates suicide, the case will be treated as a murder investigation. some frightening news out of horizion city . authorities are searching for a man who attacked a woman in horizon city monday night. it happened at the corner of alderwood manor and ashford. that’s near a golf course. horizon city police say a man grabbed the woman from behind and put a knife to her throat. the woman told police he threatened to kill her if she screamed. she fought off the man, and ran away. the suspect is described as light skinned, medium build and between five- feet-eight to six feet tall. he should also have a bite mark on his arm. if you can help police, call them at 852-1047. no explanation yet o why f-b-i agents raided a home in east el paso. it happened tuesday morning at a home on the 11-thousand-100- block of nautical. our photographer saw el paso police and fbi agents going through the home. we spoke to the owner of the home and he says he’s renting out the property and doesn’t know why the f-b-i searched the house. calls we made to the fbi have not been returned. we’ll give you more information as it becomes available. a mixed martial artist who fought off four men… who broke into his home — is now in trouble with the law. from our new mexico mobile newsroom … joe torrez ended up killing one of the attackers on new year’s eve in 2013. the d-a decided not to file murder charges against him — but now he’s been accused of domestic violence. the new complaint says torrez had an altercation with his girlfriend in carlsbad. she went to stay at a friends house and torrez allegedly began banging on the door looking for her. when she wouldn’t come out, torrez allegedly pointed a gun at two of her friends. he’s said to have told the friends “you don’t know who you’re messing with” and allegedly referred to the azteca gang. torrez remains detained in the eddy county detention center. now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… there may be some relief in sight for drivers headed west— we have an update to the closure that has shut down a large portion of interstate ten near the california and arizona border. plus, el nino may be headed for the west coast, but is california ready to take such a strong hit?
