Learn about bugs – and even eat them – at El Paso Zoo this weekend
Ants and their pal Ant-Man may be getting all the attention thanks to Ant-Man’s film currently in theaters.
But there’s more to bugs than just ants.
This weekend children and adults can learn all about bugs through interactive programs – and even eat some – during Bug Fest.
The Zoo will feature live bugs from North and South America, Africa, and Asia.
Join the El Paso Zoo’s executive chef, Miguel Guillen, at Bug Fest’s most popular experience during the Bug Cooking and Tasting demonstration.
The full Bug Fest menu includes: wax worm wonton chips, tostadas de chapulines, Texas grasshopper crostini, fry ant pupae on a cracker, toasted cicada salad, chocolate chip cricket cookies and sweet cricket popcorn.
Live bug displays will get you eye-to-eye with bugs, such as the tailless whip scorpion species in the “Harry Potter” series, or many-legged creatures you can see closer to home, like the Sonoran Desert millipede.
There also will be a “bug” slide provided by Cricket Wireless. You also can meet the zoo’s bug mascots and play Safari Rama an interactive quiz game at or make your own take-home dragonfly at the craft station.
This event is supported by United Bank. The El Paso Zoo is committed to enhancing quality of life in our community by creating innovative recreational, educational, and cultural activities, including Bug Fest.
Guests will receive a detailed schedule of events at the gate or may access it at: http://www.elpasozoo.org/event/1644-bug-fest
