1 person killed in officer-involved shooting in Central El Paso

El Paso Police say an officer was trying to conduct a traffic stop Thursday night when he was confronted by an armed passenger.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. on the 400 block of Dyer. Police say shots were fired, and a short foot pursuit followed that ended on Gateway South.

Police say the suspect collapsed, was transported to a hospital where he died of gunshot wounds.

Police say three people, or possibly four, were involved, including the man who was killed.

No arrests have been made. Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez couldn’t say who fired fired their gun first and whether or not the officer fired any shots.

Only one male officer was involved, and police couldn’t tell ABC-7 if he was a rookie or veteran with the department.
