Shooting leads to crash in Northeast El Paso
a shooting that led to a crash in northeast el paso. police say shots were fired at u-s 54 and hondo pass shortly before 4:30. when they arrived on scene– they found a car that had slammed into a barrier in front of a house. abc7’s josie ortegon has been at the scene all evening. she joins us live with more: police have now cleared the scene here in northeast el paso. police say the car crashed into this barrier here in front of a home off of gateway north. police say the driver, a man in his 30’s, was heading north on u-s 54 when a few shots were fired at his car. the man then jumped out of the car as it was still running. that’s when police say the car crashed here. the man was taken to umc for injuries he received by jumping out of the car. the car was badly damaged in the front and witnesses say there were bullet holes in the front as well. the family who lives where did not want to speak on camera but they tell me the barrier stopped the car from going into the yard and possibly crashing into their house. i spoke with several witnesses, they say this has all been very alarming: “i found put there was shooting and i was scared. i was like that’s really close. i’m scared of walking out the house because someone could just have a bad day and pick up a gun and boom.” police are still investigating why the shots were fired in the first place. no arrests have been made. we’ll keep you updated. live from ne el paso, jo, abc7. s a fort bliss sargeant convicted
