High School FB: Two A Days – Andress

tonight.. on day number 3… we take a look at andress … the andress eagles soared to a 10-3 season… winning two playoff games and reaching the regional semi finals… but after losing coach patrick brown… the eagles need to find a new head coach… they finally did… on july 14… jeff woodruff was hired just six weeks before the start of the season… woodruff: “withou spring practice we missed a month of work, a month of development. so, we’re playing catch up.” stan up: coach woodruff may be new to andress but he’s certainly not new to football. he was a division 1 college coach for years, including right here in el paso, at utep. he’s made up for lost time with intense and more efficient practices. woodruff: “we’re on the clock. every five minutes the horn is blowing. we’re trying to get every minute out of every day and we’re trying to develop the young kids, the freshmen, the jv and the backups.” cooper “he actuall came with a good sense of pride and he picked us up because we all felt like we were going to fall apart since we lost the whole coaching staff.” haynes: “he’s a very energetic coach. h likes to speak what’s on his mind, help us out with what we need help with. we’re bringing in a lot of old habits that he’s changing but we’re very sound and we can adjust to it.” the eagles return nine starters on defense but lost nine on offense… in order to prepare for the uncertainty at head coach, they leaned on team leaders more than ever. wiggins: “we rely on them a lot becaus they motivate us too. leaders motivate leaders and we motivate the little ones so they motivate us a lot to keep going and work hard.” haynes: “we’ve been working the whole summer. extra time in the weight room, seven on seven, we’ve had a lot of padded practices, we’re really working together.” the andres eagles are one of the most talented teams in the city… if they buy in to what coach woodruff is selling… the team is capable of making a serious run in the postseason. the eagles open their season on august 28th against coronado… you can find all of our two a days features on our website kvia dot com … tomorrow.. we’ll take a visit to del valle… the chihuahuas entered the night one and half games back of las
