the federal communications commission is investigating if borderland broadcasts are interfering… with aircraft communications! in a story you’ll see only on abc-seven … the federal aviation administration has confirmed it’s working with the f- c-c to track down the source of static… causing problems in control tower communications with planes coming into el paso international and in our region’s airspace. the one to two second bursts of static have been going on for the past year. the f-a says it isn’t causing any safety problems. one of the potential sources – the broadcast towers dotting the franklin mountains. “a lot of the typical investigations are making sure as a broadcaster that our equipment is within the specs, and within the required frequency so just to eliminate just you know us, or each broadcaster as a potential cause or source of interference.” the fcc investigation is ongoing, but ventanilla says several transmitters, including kvia’s, have been eliminated as possible sources.
