EPPD Detective Charged with DWI Two Years After Crash

Officials with the El Paso Police department are not saying why it took more than two years to charge a detective with DWI.

According to police, Eduardo Gonzalez, a 21-year detective, was involved in a car crash on the 11400 block of Montana on August 2, 2013.

Police said Gonzalez, off duty at the time, refused to provide a breath sample. Officers obtained a warrant to draw Gonzalez’s blood, which allegedly determined his blood alcohol content was .13, nearly twice the legal limit.

A warrant for Gonzalez’s arrest was not issued until September 4, 2015.

Gonzalez turned himself into Internal Affairs Office Tuesday , September 30, 2015.

He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $4,000 bond.

Gonzalez was placed on Administrative Duty, according to police.
