Affidavit reveals more details of El Paso Police detective’s DWI arrest in 2013 incident

An El Paso Police affidavit reveals more details of the traffic collision and arrest of an El Paso Police detective in a crash in August 2013.

Eduardo Gonzalez has been charged with DWI.

According to the affidavit, Gonzalez, who was off-duty, was driving a 2013 Cadillac Escalade when he was involved in a crash in the 11400 block of Montana on Aug. 2, 2013.

After seeing golf equipment in his Escalade at the scene, police asked Gonzalez if he had been golfing earlier and if he had been drinking beer while golfing.

Gonzalez answered yes to those questions and then told police that he then went to the bar Fanatics and continued drinking there.

Gonzalez then told police that he was kicked out of Fanatics and became involved in an altercation, saying that several subjects saw his gun on the driver’s side door’s open compartment and began to assault him.

Gonzalez said he then blacked out and when he woke up he fled the scene in his vehicle.

He was then hospitalized and refused to provide a breath sample, which led to a blood draw having to be conducted on him.

His blood alcohol content level was .13, nearly twice the legal limit.

On Sept. 4, 2015, County Court 1 issued a warrant for Gonazalez’s arrest on the charge of driving while intoxicated.

Gonzalez turned himself into the Internal Affairs Office on Sept. 30, 20, where he was processed and later booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

His bond was set at $4,000.

After the incident occurred in 2013 Gonzalez was placed on administrative duty and assigned to the property office. Police say he will remain in that position at this time.
