Cabo Joe’s sold, closes in West El Paso

People going to the west side Cabo Joe’s this week have run into something other than the restaurant they expected. While construction sounds ring out from the inside, a sign on their door marks the bar as closed for 30 days.

It’s been sold to another owner, Felipe Ybarra, who hopes to turn it into a different eatery within the month.

“It’s all happening pretty fast, so there’s a lot of stuff still in the work,” Ybarra said.

While the sale of this Cabo Joe’s may appear to be related to the closure of several bars and restaurants in the area, the new owner says there is no connection.

“Just a good business deal for us. The time was right, we were looking to do something, just taking a leap of faith,” he said.

As for what’s next?

“Definitely not a beach theme, more of a somewhat craft beer selection and a different food menu,” said Ybarra.

Craft brews are a rising trend across the nation and in the borderland.

Bars specializing in craft beer lining Mesa Street could soon outnumber closed watering-holes.
