Inmate wrongfully released from El Paso County Detention Facility

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a missing inmate.

Paul Vibert, 40, was wrongfully released El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility from the Friday at 1:30 p.m.

An EPCSO spokesperson told ABC-7 they are now investigating how this happened.

Vibert, of the 1800 block of N. Mesquite in Las Cruces, was supposed to be transferred to New Mexico authorities. He was jailed in El Paso on a 1996 warrant out of El Paso County involving the possession of drugs.

Vibert was waited to be transferred back to New Mexico authorities for a family violence warrant from their jurisdiction.

“While pending the transfer, Mr. Vibert was released from the Downtown Jail Facility with several other inmates being properly released,” EPSCO said in a statement.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently in the process of searching for Vibert, and questioning the detention officers involved to determine the appropriate disciplinary action.

EPCSO also said it’s reviewing the processes currently in place to prevent these incidents from occurring in the future.
