Update: EPCC, Canutillo ISD lift lockdowns after report of gun on EPCC Northwest campus

2:45 p.m. Update : Canutillo ISD posted the following on its social media accounts: “The lock down for Canutillo High School, Northwest Early College High School and the CISD Central Office was lifted at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is safe.”

2:34 p.m. Update: El Paso Community College has sent out alert to its students and faculty and posted on its Facebook page that, “Northwest lockdown has been lifted. Faculty, Staff, and students are all safe.”

Original Story: A cluster of schools in Northwest El Paso are on lockdown after a report of a gun on the El Paso Community College.

According to police radio transmissions at about 1:15 p.m., law enforcement said that EPCC had searched the campus and did not find a person with a gun.

During the same radio transmissions, law enforcement said that the two people who reported the subject with a gun had been contacted by law enforcement and they told law enforcement they never saw a gun.

EPCC sent out a Tejano Alert to its students and faculty, stating, “Please be aware we have a subject who is possibly armed and was last seen near North West campus. North West campus is currently on lock down, please do not leave your classrooms.”

The Canutillo Independent School District posted the following on its official Facebook page regarding a lockdown.

“Lock down orders have been issued for Canutillo High, Northwest Early College High and Canutillo Central Office at approximately 12:10 p.m. due to report of person with gun on EPCC campus. Everyone is safe. Additional updates will be provided when available. Please do not respond to campuses until all clear orders are received.”

Canutillo ISD posted a comment on the Facebook thread, stating “Law enforcement is on scene. All students and staff are safe. We are standing by for orders. Please do not respond to campuses.”
