‘Cry baby’ and ‘brat’ among insults city rep hurls at fellow city rep during recording dispute
The El Paso City Council on Tuesday yet again bickered and insulted each other.
The fight began when City Rep. Cortney Niland accused City Rep. Lily Limon of recording her.
“Representative Limon is videotaping me or recording me and it’s very uncomfortable,” Niland told City Attorney, Sylvia Firth.
Firth said there was nothing in the city council rules to address city representatives recording each other.
“I’ll be more than happy to show you that both my phones are off. I think unfortunately Ms. Niland is suffering again from a childish tantrum,” Limon told Firth.
Mayor Pro Tempore Michiel Noe interrupted the argument, telling Limon to please “act like a grown up” and for Niland to try her “best to ignore it.”
As Noe told Limon to “try to be civil,” Limon said she “resented that comment,” pointing out she did not stater the confrontation.
The bickering happened when the council was slated to discuss a tax incentive agreement with Enviro Water Mineral Company which is investing $65 million in a chemical manufacturing facility in El Paso expected to produce an additional 2.2 million gallons of drinking water a day and ten new jobs with an average salary of $49,689.
The company’s CEO was sitting in the audience as the council bickered.
As Noe asked Niland to try to ignore Limon, Limon interrupted and said Niland should try “not to be a bully and a cry baby and a brat.”
Niland asked that the issue of recording one another be explored.
When asked for an interview on the situation, Niland in a text message responded “Is it about Limon? I’d rather not.”
Limon did not respond to a request for an interview.
Noe said it was unfortunate the incentive agreement conversation was mired by the argument.
