City of El Paso takes step toward building arena in Downtown

The City of El Paso is a step closer to building that huge arena approved by voters in the 2012 Quality of Life Bond election.

The $180-million arena will be located in Downtown.

Mayor Oscar Leeser and City Manager Tommy Gonzalez announced Wednesday that they will start looking for the company to build it.

The request for proposals for the arena will be released on Thursday and bids from interested companies are due Dec. 9.

The company that is chosen will be in charge of building the arena and developing a business plan – including finding a tenant and naming rights.
