Las Cruces resident frustrated over unkempt city property
An eyesore on city property is frustrating one Las Cruces resident. For months, he’s been looking for answers from the city as to why a vacant lot near Aguilera Court is covered in weeds and mosquitos.
Rick Hernandez called ABC-7 over concerns of the property adjacent to his backyard.Hernandez says since July he’s reached out to the city asking for someone to clean it up.
The property is covered in four foot high weeds, with a cityof Las Cruces sign in the center.
ABC-7 reached out to the parks and streets department, which confirmed they’ve gotten multiple complaints about the property. They say recent rainfall has caused the weeds to spike up larger then usual and they are working to fix the problem.
But Hernandezsays he’s only gotten the run around.
“Just an answer, just you know but a definite answer,” Hernandez said. “We’re going to do it Tuesday you know such and such date and get it done not you know, we will get to it when we can. If that’s the case can I do the same thing and just let my weeds grow? When they come by and say we need to cut your weeds yeah well I’ll get to them when I can.”
An administrator with the streets department tells ABC-7 they’ve created a plan for clean up, which residents can expect to see start within three weeks.
