Lisbeth Garrett murder trial: Witness says she was “suspicious”
The Former Eastwood High teacher on trial for murder was described as “suspicious” by a witness Monday afternoon.
Lisbeth Garrett, 76, was arrested in February 2013 for allegedly killing her husband, Fort Bliss Army Maj. Chester Garrett back in 1977.
Prosecutors said Lisbeth and her son, Roger Garrett, beat and stabbed Chester in their East El Paso home. Roger was Chester’s stepson.
Her youngest son Patrick took the stand Monday, telling the jury he was 12-years-old when Roger picked him up from school. Patrick said Roger told him their father had been in an accident and died.
Patrick said the following Saturday, Roger asked him to clean a “Kool-Aid stain” off the garage floor with acid, which left it chalky and white.
Patrick’s ex-wife testified. Nicknamed, Jeanie, she said she lived in the Garrett household while married to Patrick in the early 1990’s. She described Lisbeth’s demeanor as “suspicious.”
She recalled a conversation between Lisbeth and the two sons, Lisbeth saying, “I raised a bunch of idiots.” According to Jeanie, she said Roger replied, “You raised a bunch of killers.”
Jeanie said she was startled by the statement and told detectives. She also testified she remember Patrick researching in the library, looking up his father’s death, not accepting his family’s explanation.
The prosecution has rested, the defense is set to call its witnesses Tuesday morning.
