Hail pounds West side and Santa Teresa
The day started off almost picturesque. Video off of Transmountain Road in the early evening shows a colorful horizon with billowing clouds.
Drivers got to cruise along and enjoy some fresh temperatures. County roads got some light rains but almost within minutes a downpour on the West side made for low visibility on the highway.
Drivers on Transmountain Road pulled over after hail covered the roads with sheets of ice.
Santa Teresa, New Mexico got slammed with hail as well
“The rain and the hail and the wind woke me up,” said Santa Teresa resident Brian Cain.
Cain told ABC-7 he had never seen it hail so hard while living in the area.
“I mean, it was blowing so hard and hitting the window so hard. I’m a heavy sleeper and it was a ruckus,” Cain said.
During the storm Cain quickly grew concerned for his property.
“We had quarter and nickel sized hail out here. The wind was blowing hard we’re talking 60 MPH wind gusts. I was afraid my windows were going to break in my car to be honest,”said Cain.
Cain said after the storms hit he saw a car get swept into in a arroyo from the rain runoff.
“We started to get more and more water, dirt and debris and before you knew it this parking lot behind me was full of water,” Cain said.
With storms expected to hit the area Wednesday, Cain is already thinking ahead.
“Hopefully I can find at least a tree to dampen the hail damage or a carport or a garage if I’m lucky..it’s just another day in Santa Teresa. Bad weather, it comes and goes,” said Cain.
