Hail damages cars at New Mexico State University

Las Crucens are recovering after Wednesday’s severe hail storm. The large hail damaged hundreds of cars in a parking lot across from New Mexico State University. Many vehicles are left with a lot of dents, scratches and cracks.

“I saw it just pouring down from the windows and you could hear it in the skylights it was intense,” NMSU student Victoria Vega said. “I was borrowing my in-laws’ car so I feel just so awful that it happened to their vehicle. It was kind of scary actually and afterwards I walked out and picked up a piece of hail and it was probably as big as a 50 cent piece. It was pretty big.”

Many students at NMSU tell ABC-7 they will be checking in with their insurance companies and filing claims. Companies are urging car owners to look for reputable body shops when looking for repairs.
