1 person hospitalized in early morning George Dieter crash
Update: El Paso Police say 17-year-old Johathan Horonato suffered life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning.
Police say the crash happened at about 2:23 a.m. when Horonato was traveling south at the 3300 block of George Dieter when he control of his 2015 Honda Civic and struck a light pole and a tree.
Horonato was transported to Del Sol Medical Center by fire medical services.
Police say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in this collision.
Original Story: El Paso police investigators are on the scene of a crash involving one vehicle. The crash happened at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of George Dieter Drive and Edgemere Boulevard in East El Paso.
EPPD dispatch officials confirmed to ABC-7 that one person was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with serious injuries.
Special traffic investigators have been on the scene since before 4 a.m. and are blocking the southbound lanes of George Dieter near that intersection.
The dispatch official was not sure how long the STI unit would keep the lanes closed.
Drivers may want to take Tenaha Avenue going west to Running Deer Drive to avoid that area during the morning commute.
