Detective says Acevedo allegedly strangled husband with apron after he punched her

An El Paso County Sheriff’s detective testified Wednesday in the trial of an El Paso woman charged with murder.

She is accused by the state of strangling her husband with an apron.

Martha Acevedo was quiet as she listened to testimony from Det. Jorge Andrade.

Andrade told jurors about his interview with Acevedo where she told detectives how her husband, Jose Acevedo, was drunk and punched her.

She says she fell unconscious and woke up on the couch.

That’s when she allegedly stood behind him with an apron, wrapped it around his neck and pulled hard for 10 seconds.

According to testimony, Jose didn’t struggle to get free because he was drunk.
