DA’s Office visits bars to inform about blood draw prorgram

festivities this weekend… one el paso family is making funeral arrangement for their teenage son. police say 17-year- old jonathan alonzo honorato was driving drunk tuesday morning. the el dorado high school student was reportedly driving too fast on george dieter near montana… … when he lost control of his car and crashed into a pole and a tree. our round the clock news team shot this video shortly after it happened. the car was so smashed up, you couldn’t distinguish the front end from the back. abc-seven learned honorato died at the hospital. el paso’s district attorney says he wants to keep other families from experiencing the same tragedy this weekend. and to do it, jaime esparza says he is out for blood. abc-seven’s evan folan was with county prosecutors as they went from bar to bar … getting their message out. plus, he filed an open records request to get video of what you’ll be put through if caught drinking and driving. you’ll see this only on abc-seven: pkg: nat/sot “we would like to educate the community on the danger of driving while intoxicated…” stand up: “about a week before majo holidays, attorneys from the district attorneys office go out to local bars to spread awareness for their out for blood campaign and then they hang posters like this with hopes of decreasing the amount of dwi’s in the area.” sot: “we have always seen the news o drunk drivers that don’t just cause material damage but sometimes people that aren’t even drinking are the victims of drunk driving.” : these prosecutors have mapped out which bars they’ll visit throughout the community to spread the word. sot: “we have had a really great reception. i think the local establishments that sell beer or liquor understand the importance of their customers drinking responsibly. its good for business and good for our community.” the year ol program is described as ‘edgy’ by the district attorney sot : “we want people to know i this community that dwi is a serious crime and if you wont give us a sample of your breathe we will ask the judge to give us permission of your blood.” esparza says the program has created ‘optimistic’ results. sot: ” the best news for us is we se more dwi arrestees giving us a sample of their breath and not requiring us to get a sample of their blood.” edf abc 7 abc-seven is told el paso police officers and sheriff’s deputies will be out in force this weekend. please arrange to get a ride home if you’ll be drinking. if you’re hitting the roads right now…
