Man killed in traffic fatality near Las Cruces airport identified

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials have released the name of the man killed in a traffic collision Wednesday.

He has been identified as 55-year-old Kevin Jon Monfordini, of Roswell, New Mexico.

Sheriff’s officials say Monfordini had gotten out of his 1990 Corvette in the right, eastbound lane of I-10 at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.

He was standing behind his vehicle in the roadway and waiving at oncoming traffic, according to witness statements.

Monfordini was then struck while in the roadway by a 2013 Honda utility truck traveling eastbound.

Monfordini sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
No other injuries were reported and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in this crash.

This crash is still under investigation and no further details are available.
