Flu-Mist vaccine delay

Flu season is in full effect across the borderland according to Dr. Andres Enriquez,, “We’re already late October. Flu season starts late September and it will go all the way to march.”

Although the flu shot may not prevent you from getting the flu virus, Dr.’s still urge people to get their shot ahead of time.

When it comes to children getting their flu shot, needles can be a scary thing. That’s when the needle-less vaccine, flu-mist, comes into play. This year, however, the supply for that medication may be limited.

MedImmune announced that challenges in production has delayed shipment of, flu-mist, nasal spray. Pediatricians in other states have already ran out of the vaccine altogether.

Here in El Paso, Dusty Warrden of immunize El Paso says that while they still have the flu-mist vaccine– their supply is becoming very limited.

Sanofi Pastuer is also running two to three weeks behind schedule shipping pre-filled syringes of it Fluzone vaccine, given as a shot in the arm.

While the delay may not be effecting the borderland quite yet, doctors are still urging people to get their shots before it becomes an issue.
