Remembering Eddie Guerrero: A look back at the life of an El

hulk hogan and the undertaker come to mind. but one wrestler — from right here in the sun city — is also among the elite. last friday marked the 10-year anniversary of eddie guerrero’s death. abc-7’s adrian ochoa takes a look back at the life of the el paso legend — in tonight’s special report: “viva la raza” — eddie guerre mitto at 25:45 they say time heals all wounds. but if you knew eddie guerrero’s motto: ” lie. i cheat. i steal” — eddie guerrero mitto at 25:50 — 25:52 i’d say it’s a lie. eddie guerrero was born into wrestling royalty. — eddie guerrero mitto at 1:19 — pics of family. the youngest of the guerrero family — his father the legendary wrestler gory guerrero. eddie guerrero mitto at — 2:03 — shots of gory guerrero born and raised in el paso — eddie went to jefferson high school where he was on the wrestling team. — jefferson locator — in mb under jefferson but his time in wrestling started well before his high school years. — pic of highschool eddie at 3:23 colesium adrian standup at 4:13 — 4:33 it was right here at the el paso county coliseum where eddie would first step inside the squared circle in front of an audience. his father would hold weekly wrestling events here — and during intermission when he was just a kid — eddie would wrestle his younger nephew chavo guerrero. i spoke with eddie’s sister linda rodriguez over the phone — about …thos matches created “the people that were in charge of the colisoum and the concession stands they said you have to stop having them wrestle. we’re losing money on concessions” “cause everybody would stay there and cheer them on. they loved it.” “we were sent by th organization..del santo nino.” teaming up with his nephew chavo guerrero — was a dream come true — but it was just the beginning. eddie catupulted into one of the wwe’s top superstars. — eddie mitto at 17:20 — let play out — this is the video where he wins the championship in february 2004 — with his mom in wins the championship in february 2004 — with his mom in the front row — he won the most coveted championship in professional wrestling: “eddie guerrero is the new ww champion!!!” — fad to black. on november 13th 2005 — at the height of his career — eddie was found dead in a minnesota hotel room. the cause of death — acute heart failure — eddie was 38. linda recalls breaking the news to her mother: “we brought her to the house an we told her and we saw the most saddest and beautiful thing. she fell down and thanked god for the 38 years she had with my brother.” the following year — he was inducted into the wwe hall of fame — eddie’s wife vickie accepted the honor. linda was there as well — “i was honored pride for my brother but at the same time wishing he was there every minute.” 10 years later — his memory lives ons. this past spring i was in santa clara california for wrestlemania 31 where fans from all over the world gather to see the best wrestlers in the business. eddie was also there — in spirit. fans still wear his t-shirt and rember him fondly: “every time he came out he gave everything his all. you could always tell he meant something when he was in the ring.” “a constant and tru professional and 10 years later we’ll never forget eddie guerrero.” it’s not just the fans who miss eddie — but also fellow wrestlers. blue demon — a legend in mexico — was eddie’s good friend. i spoke with him last month: “it’s sad to rember him but for me he’s the best..he was the best of the guerrero family.” an el paso legend — taken away much too soon. but even with the passage of time — fans continue to chant his name. mr. lie -cheat & steal — who in the end — stole our hearts. “he’ll always live on with us but just to see it with the fans …ah…it’s so wonderful.” adrian ochoa — abc-7. eddie chant nats continue over eddie photo — “eddie eddie eddie”.
