Western Refining looks to generate its own electricity, which could increase your rates
Western Refining is looking toward generating its own electricity through co-generation.
The company is one of El Paso Electrics top sale customers using 50 megawatts a year (equal to about 19,500 homes).
If Western Refining decides to pursue co-generation it would not completely discontinue its relationship with the electrical company.
The refining company would generate about 80 percent of its own electricity, but would still rely on El Paso Electric for the remaining 20 percent.
Currently, Western Refining is paying close to $25 million a year for its electrical bill and if it decides to cut back on its usage that means other classes may have to subsidize the electrical company’s loss.
