well, the driver is now charged with murder. the court documents abc-7 got state 25-year-old daniel mendoza called told the 9-1-1 operator his boyfriend was driving 100-miles an hour… and wouldn’t let him out of the car. eleven minutes later, police officers found the car rolled over in a parking lot. police initially charged 23- year-old jesus mireles with intoxicated assault. but because of those details i just mentioned, police upgraded that charge to murder. mireles was also injured and he is still in the hospital. abc-seven is also learning a more about this man, hector reyes. he’s in jail in the el paso county jail charged with killing 27-year- old miguel rivera. border patrol agents found rivera’s body in a desert area not far from cattleman’s restaurant just off i-10 near the fabens exit. court documents obtained by abc-7 state rivera’s family says he was in a relationship with hector reyes. investigators also say a witness claims reyes admitted to killing rivera, saying he couldn’t trust him and he had to do it. and another body was found in that same area yesterday morning. the el paso sheriff’s office says it is not connected to the rivera case. we’re told deputies responded to a car fire and found a body. a sheriff’s spokesperson won’t tell us who that person is… … or if he or she was found inside the burning car or near the vehicle. officials in hudspeth county are investigating a plane crash that happened yesterday evening. we first brought this as breaking news last night during our 10 o’clock news cast. it happened just before 6pm at the guadalupe peak. that’s about 90 miles east of el paso at the guadalupe mountains national park a spokesman with dps says — crews noticed some flames coming from the top of the mountain. a medical helicopter was called in to do a fly by — and the crew confirmed a plane had crashed. it’s unknown the type of plane — the number of passengers — or if anyone was hurt. the spokesman told us they will release more information later today. it’s a difficult scene to investigate because of the plane’s location. he added that the f-a has been notified. now on a much lighter note– new this morning we’re introducing you to an 81-year-old grandmother who loves to run– and most recently took her hobby to another level. good morning el paso’s denise olivas is live with her story …denise? elvira montes is a runner. at 81– she runs 3 miles everyday and has even competed in the boston marathon. but earlier this month– she took part in a race that included chugging beer– becoming the oldest finisher at the race: “really i don’t drink beer…bu it tasted real good” but she made an exception on decmeber first when she took part in the flo-track beer mile world championships. this is video of her running up to the beer table and chugging way. participants run a quarter mile then chug a beer until a mile is complete. montes– in the end– chugged four beers. she says she finished with a time of 20 minutes and 14 seconds. you heard her say she’s not much of a beer drinker– but does enjoy her scotch a couple times a week. she retired about a year ago from the city of el paso parks and recreation department. montes credits her daughters for keeping her active: “well when my daughter told me…and i finished” she couldn’t help but tell us that she beat her daughter– who is a marathon runner. the lesson here– staying healthy at any age is possible. montes says she encourages those around her to do the same. we have an abc-7 traffic alert to pass along for el paso’s east side— starting tomorrow night at 9 p.m.– the westbound lanes of i-10 between the lee trevino exit ramp and the yarbrough entrance ramp will be completely closed until 2 a.m. friday morning. all the ramps along this stretch will also be closed. this is part of the operational improvements projects. crews will be replacing the lane control head on the interstate. / an happening right now on el paso’s westside—- drivers heading east are being forced to exit at sunland park— still much more to come here on good morning el paso — dysfunction in dona ana county. the sheriff given a restraing order during a news conference, following the arrest of the county’s jail administrator…we’ll have more on that story. and it’s something out of the future that a lot of kids are asking for from santa this christmas—but it’s putting people all over the country in danger.. / meteorologist krystal klei has your detailed forecast. krystal… and this is abc-7, where news comes first!
