Nearly $4 million worth of marijuana confiscated at Santa Teresa port of entry
Almost 5,000 pounds of marijuana was confiscated at the Santa Teresa port of entry on Friday, Dec. 11.
CBP officers say the drugs, with an estimated street value of $3.95 million, were concealed in a commercial shipment of two tanker trailers.
“This is the largest drug bust at Santa Teresa since February 1, 2002, when a 5,263 pound marijuana seizure was made at the port,” said Steven Jameson, CBP Santa Teresa Assistant Port Director. “Smugglers went to great lengths and spared no expense to create hidden compartments in their failed attempt to defeat the CBP process.”
The seizure was made at about 1 p.m. Friday when a flatbed tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of two tankers arrived at the port from Mexico.
CBP officers drilled into the suspicious areas in the bottom of both trailers and recovered a green substance which tested positive for marijuana.
The tankers were dismantled and CBP officers removed numerous bundles of compressed marijuana from hidden compartments in both tankers.
No arrest were made and the investigation continues.
