the medical center of the americas but the three story, 60- thousand square foot tech park will house biomedical innovations. tonight, i’d like to take you on a hard- hat tour of the building that’s six months away from completion. the bulldozers continue moving earth … …and the electrical engineers are working on each floor …getting the cardwell collaborative ready for a diverse group of tenants. sot emma schwartz pres of medical center of the americas foundation. emma schwartz: “it’s really a biomedical innovation center. we have done so much as a community to invest in the advancement of our healthcare, education, and and healthcare delivery in this community over the last 15 years. by the time the william beaumont facility is done and the new texas tech… tenant hospital is done, we will have seen in our community over 2 billion dollars of capital investment in a 15 year period in education and healthcare delivery in our community.” i slipped on a safety vest and hard hat and got to see the 27-million dollar building before sheetrock covers the frame! the state building before sheetrock covers the frame! the state of the art building will house wet and dry labs, incubators and , office space for private start up companies. but most importantly, it will be a place for university students like jesus carrillo to become more competitive in the biomedical industry. sot jesus carrillo: “with this kind of projects we’re going to grow a lot of opportunities/its great to set an example and hopefully with our infrastructure and with our programs we will eventually creating more of this.” one project that wil take place here involves the medical center of the americas partnering with the center for advancing innovation in washington d.c to compete in nasa’s “space race” contest.. the goa is to form teams that can turn ideas into real products. 19:15 in year one we start up ten companies, after four years we’re starting 40 high tech companies in this region with all the universities invested in all 40. so we want to incentivize them with lab space, marketing support any way that we can. the support includes seed money., the paso del norte “space race innovation challenge will start taking applications in january. for more information go to kvia,com we have a link to the space race and cardwell colaboraive. just look under the links mentioned section. stormtrack weather is up next after
