Report: Sunland Park disincorporation effort falls short by 13 signatures

The Albuquerque Journal is reporting that the effort to disincorporate Sunland Park has failed to reach a crucial step in the process.

Disincorporation proponent Craig Carpenter told the newspaper they fell short 13 signatures to trigger an election on whether or not to disincorporate Sunland Park.

Dona Ana County Commissioner Dr. David Garcia and County Manager Julia Brown held a town hall meeting on Dec. 10 at San Martin de Porres Church. The county officials answered questions about the disincorporation effort being pushed by residents in Sunland Park.

Petitioners told ABC-7 that night that they had collected enough signatures to move forward. The signatures were then turned in to Dona Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins this week.
