Teen involved in robberies, car chase gets 2 years probation

paso and into otero county.. with four of his friends in the car … now knows his punishment. our new mexico mobile newsroom reporter was inside the alamogordo courtroom today as edwin rodriguez was sentenced. reporter jamie warren tweeted … “prosecutor says while at one point a passenger asked rodriguez to stop during chase, rodriguez allegedly said he could “outrun these fools.” rodriguez faced more charges than the other four teens. one of them was aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon. he pleaded no contest. let’s go to abc-seven’s jamie warren now who was there for his punishment. she’s live from our new mexico mobile newsroom. jamie? while edwin rodriguez gave no emotion this evening in court, his parents were noticeably crying as the prosecutor described to the judge what happened that day back in october. rodriguez entered the courtroom wearing all black, his wrists and ankles shackled. we’ve now showing his face at the instruction of the judge. childrens court attorney ellen jessen explained how rodriguez, who was the driver in that high speed chase, was also the ringleader and once allegedly told a passenger in the car he could, quote “outrun these fools”. hi parents were crying as she spoke. while the state was asking rodriguez spend two years in a juvenile facility, judge counts instead gave him 2 years probation with strict orders. in the end the judge actually put him on probation for 2 years with a long laundry list of conditions of probation and now he will return to detention and its my understanding that there is a texas warrant for him that will probably be served there while rodriguez didnt speak before the judge today we heard from his father who got emotional while describing his son. we’ll hear from him on abc7 at 10 jamie, with one of the five teens already being punished. thank you for that report. as for the other teens… they still face charges for what they allegedly did back in october. 14 year old jaquil webb pleaded guilty to other charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. also waiting to be charged are 15 year old evelyn brown… and 14-year-olds antonio brown and isaiah garcia. today’s punishment for rodriguez comes just one day after we learned el paso county now has the cases against all five teens … and they’ll soon face the law here, where their alleged robbery spree happened … right before that chase. they’ll be charged with crimes in connection to the 4 northeast and eastside businesses police say they robbed armed with pellet guns. christmas is now
