ABC-7 uncovers details on Dona Ana County Sheriff’s lawsuit against two county commissioners
ABC-7 just uncovered new details about the lawsuit filed by Dona Ana County Sheriff Kiki Vigil. Back in October, the Sheriff claimed two County Commissioners were out to get him.
Vigil told ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom, “These two, Mr. Billy Garrett and Wayne Hancock, they started the process for censure, to censure me from speaking out at these public forums.” We even asked County Attorney Nelson Goodin to detail what the commissioners accused Sheriff Vigil of doing. Goodin replied, “No comment.”
Tuesday evening, ABC-7 obtained a Summary Statement prepared by Dona Ana County Commissioners Billy Garrett and David Garcia. The documents state the allegations never came from the commissioners as the Sheriff alleges.
According to Garrett and Garcia, a Human Resources employee complained that he or she felt bullied while Sheriff Vigil conducted an investigation into the H.R. Department. We also learned Sheriff Vigil filed the lawsuit before commissioners were even briefed on the findings. Interesting to note, there is no written report on the matter.
