Diocese of Juarez holds news conference

Hundreds of Juarenses are diligently preparing for Pope Francis’ visit in February.

The Catholic Diocese of Juarez shared details Tuesday on how the Vatican will set the whole thing up.

The Diocese of Juarez talked about how they want to make
everything run smoothly and represent Mexico in the visit that will be seen around the world.

The news conference started with some quick introductions with Fr. Leonardo Garcia getting right into the logistics of the pope’s 10 mile route.

“Five blocks to the left and to the right of the road the pope will be traveling on will be blocked off for traffic safety,” said Garcia.

Garcia said they may place big screen projection units at the “X” many are familiar with, at a soccer stadium near the border and at Chamizal National Park in Juarez.

Garcia also said the altar that will be built for the pontiffs visit was designed by Swiss architects and materials have been donated by construction companies from Juarez.

The altar will be built in a area where crews are already clearing land.

Garcia said designs around the altar, and the pope’s seat will be made in Juarez and will reflect the culture of Mexico.

Diocese spokesman Fr. Hesiqiuo Trevizo said international border security will be tighter than usual.

When asked if El Paso or Las Cruces diocese members would have any role in helping with the pope’s visit Trevizo said the pope already visited the U.S.
and this will be about Mexico.

Treviso said about a 50 thousand people are expected to attend Mass.
