Trans Mountain, Scenic Drive reopen

Dec. 28 Monday Afternoon Update: Trans Mounain and Scenic Drive have both been reopened after being closed over the weekend due to snow and ice.

The major winter storm that hit El Paso and the Borderland has finally left the borderland and continues to move east.

Monday night, after 11 p.m., the borderland will experience patchy fog throughout the evening and overnight hours.

A southwest flow will develop Friday and bring moisture and a chance of showers to the area Friday night and Saturday.

Temperatures will remain well below normal through the period.

We have settled into a cooler weather pattern that will see below average temperatures through the coming weekend.

Original Story Late Sunday, Dec. 27: Thousands of drivers will be off the road Monday morning because of scheduled closures — and that’s a good thing because officials warn the commute will be treacherous.

All school districts are off for the winter break, so there will be no school buses and carpooling for parents.

The City of El Paso administrative offices will be shut down until January 4 .

However, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department announced all aquatic facilities, senior Centers and Recreation centers will have a delayed opening Monday , beginning at 10 a.m.

Students taking part in the WSI course still have to report at 8 a.m. as scheduled. The office suggested calling 915- 240-7662 for more information.

All clinics of El Paso Orthopedic Surgery Group will have a delayed opening of 9:00 am.

The El Paso County Courthouse will be closed Monday to observe the Christmas Holiday, as scheduled. The courthouse will resume its regular schedule on Tuesday.

The El Paso Zoo will remain closed on Monday, Dec. 28, to allow for winter storm-related clean-up efforts. Ice and snow accumulated on the zoo grounds creating potentially hazardous conditions for visitors.

McKelligon Canyon will remain closed until further notice due to roadway conditions.

Sun Metro operated a regular schedule Sunday and as of 7:30 p.m., there were no announcements of reduced service for Monday .

Neither the City of Las Cruces nor Dona Ana County had updated reports on any closures or cancelations on their websites or social media accounts Monday morning.

Scenic Drive and Transmountain will remain closed as a precaution. All other city-maintained streets are open.
