McNair trial continues

was one revelation in a taped interview played for the jury at his murder trial today. the trial has wrapped up for the day. open abc7’s josie ortegon has the latest, developing now on abc-seven… rick, estela. the jury was dismissed about an hour ago. they listened to hours of testimony and evidence from detectives and the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on gerardo luna, whom the defendants called mexican jerry. the medical examiner, dr. janice diaz, said luna was so badly burned, she couldn’t determine a cause of death. mcnair told detectives he and the group cornered luna, beat him, tied a bungee cord around his neck and slit his throat. he said they poured lighter fluid on his body and he lit him on fire. mcnair said luna fought back, but was overpowered. he said he introduced jerry luna to the group. mcnair told police another defendant, brittney stewart, was the one who wanted to kill luna – and that he was following her orders. licensed el paso psychologist dr. james schutte was the only defense witness. he reviewed more than one thousand of mcnair’s hospital documents – cg gfx: “mexican jerry” tria witnesses take stand -dr. james schutte, licensed psychologist – reviewed more than 100 of mcnair’s hospital documents – believes mcnair suffers from severe mental illness, bipolar disorder – person goes through periods of depression and “hypomania” where they’re over happy or overly excited -engage in impulsive and erratic behavior – talk about things they’ve done that they haven’t done–and suffer hallucinations there are no more witnesses the jury has heard all evidence in the case. closing arguments begin at 8:30 tomorrow morning. josie, we’ll stay on top of this trial until it’s over. thanks for the update. until it’s over. thanks for the update. many feared heavy traffic and bright
