Three Miners Ink NFL Free Agent Deals
Former Miners Roy Robertson-Harris, Kelvin Fisher Jr. and Cedrick Lang signed NFL free agent contracts on Saturday night.
Robertson-Harris signed a contract with the Chicago Bears. He was a three-year starter and a four-year letterwinner for the Miners. Last season, the captain registered a season-best 51 stops (27s/24a) and posted team-high nine quarterback hurries. In 2014, the defensive lineman led the team in tackles for loss (9.5—27 yards), sacks (3.5—19 yards), forced fumbles (four) and quarterback hurries (six). As a sophomore, Robertson-Harris saw action in all 12 games and made eight starts. He notched 34 tackles (12s/22a) and six tackles for loss.
Fisher Jr. signed a free agent deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He transferred to UTEP in 2014 and played two seasons for the Miners. The defensive back participated in 11 games and started in nine contests as a senior. He notched 33 tackles (19s/14a), one interception, four pass breakups and one quarterback hurry. During junior campaign, Fisher Jr. saw action in 10 games.
Lang signed a contract with the New York Giants. He used his fifth year of eligibility to play football after suiting up for the UTEP basketball team for four seasons. The two-sport athlete played in all 12 contests and made one start last season. The tight end caught 11 passes for 72 yards and a score as a senior. Lang hauled in the game-winning touchdown during a come-from-behind overtime victory versus NM State.
Head coach Sean Kugler’s son Robert Kugler also signed a free agent deal with the Buffalo Bills. Kugler played for Purdue and was a four-year letterwinner for the Boilermakers.?
