Volunteers work to rebuild local homes

Volunteers from the community group Rebuild Together gathered Saturday to help a local couple by giving their home a makeover among others. Hundreds showed up and laid new tile and cleaned and repainted the home.

The group was able to clean a total of 20 homes throughout the city. A group spokeswoman said the goal is to persevere and revitalize homes throughout the Borderland for low income, elderly or disabled people.

Cristina Zunga explained how the rebuilding the homes is made possible.

“We start asking for contributions,” Zunga said, “sometimes we go beyond what we received but at the end of the day it’s a beautiful thing, because they’re happy and blessed and so are we.”
