jefferson high school. the high school was established in 1949 and has never had a stadium — until today. abc-7’s jerry najera was at the board meeting he is live with the story … abc-7’s jerry najera was at the board meeting he is live with the story … rick estela after 67 years jefferson will finally get a stadium. i spoke with principle fred rojas who says this is something the students deserve and it’s also safer for them as well. like football teams on friday night the jefferson silver foxes run on to the field ready to win. but since the school was establsihed over 60 years ago they’ve never had a stadium. the team has always had to use nieghboring high school’s bowie stadium. “this is history i the making” jefferson principle fred rojas with a smile from ear to ear was ecstatic about the news “this is something that’ been in the making for a long time it’s been in the works for 2 and a half years” trustee allocated two-point-eight million dollars for the new stadium and softball field. the money comes from the bond election approved by voters in 2007. the district says the money was initially set aside for a new high school but after seeing the drop in attendance, they decided to fund the stadium instead. “there was a bit o frustration with the process however the wait was well worth it” rojas tells me not having a stadium came with some disadvantages “the challenges that we had was that we had to walk to our home games over to bowie” “safety was a conce coming back was a concern too” the approval for the stadium did come with drawbacks. it was initially expected to seat 6- thousand but because of space constraints the stadium will only fit 3-thousand. as for flores –he’s already got his sights set on the future of the stadium. “it’ not just football that’s going to benefit from this, it’s going to be soccer, it’s going to be track, it’s going to be band. we’re going to be able to have those events on campus for the first time ever” plans for the stadium will also include concession stands and walk ways. construction is expected to begin next month and is expected to be completed within a year. if you’re planning to cool
