Campus Carry law goes into effect at UTEP Monday

It’s been the center of controversy for nearly a year now.

Starting Monday, if you have a concealed handgun license, you will be allowed to bring a gun on the UTEP campus.

August 1 is when the campus carry law goes into effect. The law allows concealed handguns to be carried at all public Texas universities.

The law allows for individuals to carry concealed handguns into classrooms. But under federal law, there are areas on campus that can be excluded.

Some of those areas include:
-patient care areas, such as the student health center
-sporting events, like Sun Bowl Stadium
-laboratories, like the biology building
-housing areas where students live in a shared space, such as Miner Heights and Miner Canyon
