Second US Mexico 10k takes off
The US Mexico 10k was held Saturday, the second since the race was brought back last year. More than 700 runners gathered and ran across both countries, a sign of the relationship between our cities.
Hundreds took off running for ten kilometers through El Paso and Juarez, passing by historic landmarks, San Jacinto Plaza, and the Guadalupe Mission, with runners coming from the borderplex and beyond
“It’s really just one big city divided by geography,” said Mauricio Felix, a man who was El Paso born but now lives in Juarez.
Even the Chihuahua State Governor-elect, Javier Corral laced up for the race
“These events help strengthen the friendship in our community and challenge those who seek to destroy our ties,” said Corral.
Smiles on every face as people crossed the finish line just across the border, many giving the same message while on the go: it’s safe to go to Juarez.
“I go over all the time to visit friends, to be with friends,to show off the other part of this binational community,” said El Paso congressman Beto O’Rourke.
“It seems like things are practically back to normal/ People are on the streets at night, with their kids, and I think it’s a really good thing for Juarez,” said Rebecca Wilson, and El Pasoan who works in Cd. Juarez.
Several runners celebrated when they crossed the finish line and went right back, to have breakfast in Mexico.
