ABC-7 Listens 08.14.16
that’s the way one viewer wants it. rick cabrera shares his comments in abc-7 listens. we recently looked back at the devastation from storm 2006 and to this day … in some parts of town … rain can cause lots of problems … including flooding. personally … i don’t like driving in the rain … because i don’t like how the other drivers drive … and when i’m not driving … i’m walking and umbrellas and i don’t get along. that being said … i know it’s not all about me … and this region as a whole is always desperate for rain. wch brings us to this letter. it was sent to chief meteorologist doppler dave speelman … and the writer doesn’t like that doppler talks about the need for rain and how we really could use some. “stop asking for rain i’m an old guy and have lived in el paso most of the time. ” don’t like any kind of precipitation at all. “i have very severe negative reaction to any snow at all. “that’s one reason i lov the desert so much. usually very, very dry. “as far as i’ concerned no rain ever … would be great. “keep the rai somewhere else, not here. “yo don’t see fields of veggies here. “no precipitation i perfectly ok in el paso county.” i can respect the writers dislike for rain … i’m sure he’s not alone … but again you have to look at the big picture … which doppler dave did in this response. “we need rain – this area is used to having 8-9 inches of rain per year – it balances this areas ecosystem – too much or too little has an effect on various plants and vegetation. “without rain w cannot replenish our aquifers and thus have water to take a bath, drink and water our lawn. “we can only rely so much on snow in colorado that feeds the rio grande.” i’m sure the numerous farmers in our area, including doppler dave, would cringe at hearing that someone thinks any rain is too much rain … especially when we were dealing with a severe drought earlier this year. so, don’t be surprised if you hear doppler and the rest of the stormtrack weather team rooting for … not against rain. rick cabrera. abc-7 listens. moisture and weak instability will continue
