Chihuahuas Win 9-4 to Take Series in Albuquerque

The El Paso Chihuahuas scored five runs after the seventh inning to break open a close game and beat the Albuquerque Isotopes 9-4 Sunday night. The Chihuahuas won three of the five games in the crucial series and now sit in first place by 5.5 games with eight regular season games remaining. El Paso’s magic number to clinch its second straight division title is four.

Manuel Margot went 3-for-5 with two different multi-RBI hits, falling a home run shy of a cycle. It was his third consecutive multi-hit game. Nick Torres hit two solo home runs in the victory, his first career multi-home run game.

El Paso starter Walker Lockett picked up his first Triple-A win, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing two earned runs. Ryan Buchter allowed two runs in the eighth in his first appearance down from San Diego, but left the tying run on base when Carlos Asuaje made a diving play on a ground ball up the middle.

The Chihuahuas encourage fans to join in the fun and support the team as they return home for the final eight games of the 2016 regular season and look to clinch the Pacific Southern Division for the second consecutive season! The Chihuahuas have plenty in store for fans including Star Wars Night and Jersey Auction on Tuesday, Wooftop Wednesday (presented by Townsquare Media), Thrifty Thursday (KLAQ, Univision, Jose, What’s Up, KFOX) and two days of Fireworks Spectaculars on Saturday (presented by KISS and KVIA) and Sunday, respectively.
