Las Cruces police seek 2 men in home invasion, robbery

Two armed, masked men broke into a Las Cruces apartment and robbed one of the people inside before fleeing on foot early Thursday morning.

Police responded to call of shots fired shortly after midnight on the 1600 block of Gladys Dr. Investigators learned that the robbers got in through a window and overpowered one of the four occupants. One of the the robbers struck a 21-year-old man with the butt of a handgun, which caused the handgun to discharge.

The assailants demanded money from the victims before they ran out the front door of the apartment.

A neighbor spotted the two men fleeing from the apartment and briefly chased them before one of the intruders discharged a handgun in his direction, police said.

Nobody was struck and there were not serious injuries reported.

Police described the robbers as Hispanic men — one of them has long hair.
