400 block of Cortez will remain closed while police investigate deadly shooting
Detectives with the police department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit are investigating Tuesday morning’s deadly shooting.
It happened on the 400 block of Cortez Drive in South-Central El Paso. That block of Cortez will remain closed to through traffic while the investigation at the scene
continues, police said. Neighborhood residents will have access to their homes.
Police confirmed a 61-year-old man was shot and killed. Officers were called to the house after a roommate heard a gunshot at 3:48 a.m. Officials said the roommate walked to the backyard, where he discovered the man’s body.
Due to the yard’s dismal condition, investigators had to wait until the scene was processed and the medical examiner arrived before determining a homicide had
occurred, a police spokesman said.
EPPD officials said there is no suspect at this time.
